This issue of Icelandic Agricultural Sciences is dedicated to the memory of Dr Gunnar Ólafsson, former director of the Agricultural Research Institute in Iceland, who died on 21 February 1985. The papers were presented at a memorial Symposium on Nutritional Aspects of Sheep Grazing and Feeding under Northern Condition, held by the Agricultural Rresearch Institute, in Reykjavík on 10–11 August 1990. Unfortunately two papers from the Symposium are missing as they did not materialize.
The Symposium was organized by Dr Ólafur Gudmundsson (Chairman), Mr Ingvi Thorsteinsson, Mr Tryggvi Eiríksson and Mr Stefan Sch. Thorsteinsson, all staff members of the Agricultural Research Institute at the time.
We thank the participants of the Symposium for their participation and the authors of the published papers for their valuable contribution. We also like to thank other staff members of the Agricultural Research Institute for their cooperation and support; especially Mr Tryggvi Gunnarsson for his work during the process of preparing this publication. Special thanks go to the Ministry of Agriculture for their support and to the Soil Conservation Service of Iceland for their hospitality during a visit to their headquarters in Gunnarsholt.
